Alan Lomax Field Recordings
Since July 2006 I have been leading the development of the Alan Lomax Field Recordings site. The project maps the recordings of Alan Lomax to a Google Map. It will be featured on the the Alan Lomax Archives & Society for Cultural Equity web site.
Our team of four has been busy "geoarchiving"
the 10,000 song database that Alan Lomax recorded that represent 60 years
of his work (his personal collection, separate from what the Smithsonian
owns). We are plotting each recording to its geographical location via Google
Maps in an effort to make browsing this database quicker and easier. Users
will for the first time be able to listen to the all of the recordings from
around the world. This site will be live at the end of the month, at which
time I will post the link.
